Dr. Gottman: Explaining the couples lab

1. Dr. Gottman did a research on how relationships work. He video taped couples on doing ordinary things like talking to each other about how each other’s day went. An example for a couple would be talking about ad ay of conflict and continuing disagreenment.

2. The University of Washington had a bed and breakfast get away for couples where they would hang out for 24hours listing to music and watching television and doing whatever they wanted.

1. The U.W. predict that 87% of newlywed couples remain married then four to six years later get divorced. They also predict that 81% of marriages survive seven to nine years of marriage.

2.Theres a coding system thats a pattern between the happiest and not not so happiest couples. happy couples listen to each other and have respect for each other as well. For unhappy couples there isn’t any respect or any positive things to say to each other.

I think that all of these techniques  are good because being a woman and having expierenced some of these myself, I can admit that I did enjoy them and they did have the “desired effect” .

However, I also think that the success of these techniques  depends on the girl and what she may or may not like personally. All woman’s bodies are different and what maybe highly pleasurable to some women maybe extremely uncomfortable to another.

I think that all of these lessons are gernally good advice from my personal expierences but thats just me and it can differ depending on the girl.

Can animals be gay?

Can animals be gay is about a type of bird called an Laysan albatroses. These birds live at a place called Kaena Point. The birds spend six months flying over open waters as far north as Alaska, and then they come back to be with their mate. Albatrosses can live between 60 to 70 yeas old and mate with the same bird every year. “There are about 120 breeding albatrosses in the colony, and gradually, each will arrive and feel out the crowd for the one other particular albatross it has been waiting to have sex with again.” Once the birds are together, they make one egg which they have to sit on for 65 days. The Albatrosses take shifts sitting on the egg while the other goes off to fish or eat for weeks. “All those sickening things that couples do that gross out everyone else but the two people in the couple? … Birds have the same thing.” I often saw pairs sitting belly to belly, arching their necks and nuzzling together their heads to form a kind of heart shape.” Lindsay C. Young is a biologist who studies the Albatrosses and says that there sappose to be icons of monogamy one male and one female. She has been doing research on the birds in Oahu since 2003. During Young’s doctoral work, her and a colleague had discovered that there was a third pair at Kaena Point. Female birds at Kaena Point and the birds from Kauai had been together for 4 to 9 years which Young’s colleague had studied when she was at Kauai. These female pairs have been incubating eggs together and raising their baby chicks as well. Young does not like the term lesbian used for the birds because same sex partners do the same thing that two females would do. There is many sam-sex sexual activity that has been recorded in 450 different types of animals.

The High Price of Being a Gay Couple

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being a gay couple because gays, lesbians and bisexuals do the same thing as any straight couple would do. People shouldn’t judge other people just because they are born different from everyone else. I have family and friends who are lesbians, gay or bisexual and I support it and because I love them just as much as I would love anyone else. 

The four rules that I picked are She wants to Experiment in Bed (and out)-1, Facebook Sex-2, More Muscle, Less Weight, Better Sex-3, and The Psychology of a Botty Call-10. I chose these four rules because they were interesting to me and I would learn more about sex.

The first rule that I choose was She wants to Experiment in Bed (and out)-1 is about how both men and women have different standards when it comes time for sexual behaviors. For Example: “In a study 104 men and women were given a list of 33 sexual behaviors.”In a study half of students were asked to rate if it was normal for men to have sexual behavios while the other half of the students rated the same for women to have sexual behavors as well. In the end of the study women were the ones that enjoy a greater freedom of sex then men do. Most couples have sex toys, play with food during sex and have other couples in bed to enjoy each others sexual performances. It also says that most men find it attractive when a women kisses another women but if a man were to kis another man he would be labled as gay. He would be labled as gay because men like to try a range of sexual behaviors other than just being with a women. “The upside: A woman can take the lead in working out her kinks. And maybe she’ll let you watch.”

More Muscle, Less Weight, Better Sex is the third rule that I chose. I chose this rule because it says that researchers at Florida Atlantic University found that if both men and women were to loose weight they would feel better about themselves and would enjoy sex more often. I think this is true because if a couple were having sex and didn’t feel comfortable around each other it would be because they both think that are overweight and would want to loose the weight for each other. “Muscular guys were the most sexually satisfied; body weight was key for women.”

The last rule that I chose was The Psychology of a Booty Call. This rule interest me because it explains what a boot call is. The article says that its not a relationship and its not a one night stand. “According to the authors of a new study from New Mexico State University and the University of Texas at Austin, the dirty dialing fills a sociological niche as a compromise between men’s and women’s ideal mating strategies.” It also explains how men just want sex partners and women want to have longer-term relationships. “identifying the genders of people who typically make and receive booty calls (men and women, respectively), the preferred medium for booty-call initiation (usually an old-fashioned phone call), and the typical factors cited in a call’s success or failure.” I think its fine that people have booty calls. sometimes they will work out and sometimes they wont. If a booty call does work out then it does and if it doesn’t then there is always another person to call for a booty call.

The theories that I would use to study sexual orientation is Behavioral Theory, Social Learning Theory, Cognitive Theory, and Humanistic Theory. I would use Behavioral Theory because behaviorists believe that it is necessary to observe and measure behavior in order to understand it. Social Learning Theory because they believe that imitation and identification are also important in development of sexuality. I would also use Cognitive Theory because it holds that people differ in how they process information, and this creates personality differences. Example: “We feel what we think we feel, and our thoughts also affect our behavior.” The last theory that I would use to study sexual orientation is Humanistic Theory because psychologists believe that we all strive to develop ourselves to the best of our abilities and to achieve self-actualization.
